In October 2013, VTrans was awarded $100,000 in Job Access Reverse Commute (JARC) funds through SANBAG to begin the operation of a taxi voucher program available to low-income, senior and disabled residents of the San Bernardino Valley. The VTrans board agreed to match this project by funding an additional $300,000 to enhance the program. Currently in the design stage, the program will be offered to low-income individuals for work and work related trips such as interviews as well as to seniors and persons with disabilities to access medical trips and other life sustaining and life enriching activities. VTrans is actively working with other transit agencies who have implemented successful taxi voucher programs such as Sunline Transit Agency to ensure that our program is as efficient as possible. Like Sunline’s taxi voucher program, VTrans will utilize a reloadable debit card system which will make it easy for participants to load their 50% share of the taxi fare using their own debit or credit card. Yellow Cab and Bell Cab, the two taxi providers in the Valley are excited to be a part of the program and participants will have their choice of who to call when they need a ride!
Further details about the program are forthcoming, keep up with the status of this program and more by visiting our website at www.vtrans.us.com and our Facebook and Twitter accounts.
